More talk?

Looking and reading about these people in the middle east makes me think we'll probably have to fight them instead of talking. They're probably looking for a good excuse to get us all around a big table so they blow ourselves up. If we want to keep our troops safe I suggest eliminating their potential to make war.
Case in point:

The Sound of Music

keeps going through my head... "So long! Farewell!... Adieu!" Because that's what I'll be doing to everything thing here at GCC soon. Am I sentimental? I thought I might be able to have some feeling of that persuation. I was close...but close doesn't cut it (especially in raquetball). Today I ate my final meal in MAP "cafe". I figured this would be the best place on campus for sentimentality because it is, after all, a place where I have laughed much, bonded much, and eaten even more. But today, they ran out of salad supplies... no bread, or cereal, or bowls. This prevented me from shedding any tears.
Otherwise, I've been doing what I can to see as many people as possible while spending as much time as possible at the cabin. If you are reading this on GCC and you don't know about the Outing Club please look into it. If you don't like it, fine. We don't want you. But if you think you can handle weekends full of hiking, camping, biking, and eating good food in a cabin with no electricity... then hit up a meeting next semester or talk to a friend who knows more (or talk to me).
I'm trying to attach a picture from out latest canoe trip on the Allegheny River. I hope it works.

Friendship Force Remix

is reviving the glory days of 2nd floor Memorial (Crawford side). We met and bowled as freshmen. We still hang out and bowl together four years later! I *heart* Grove City. (wipe tear)
Anyway, I think we're pretty good...sometimes. I mean "sometimes" because I think we have to to be the most inconsistent bowlers of all time. To its credit, Friendship Force Remix holds almost half of the 20 top scores (over and near 200!). Other games, we struggle to break 100. But we're nerds...not probowlers.

Yes, we were crazy enough

to suggest that we should let nerds take care of the illegal immigration problem. We devised a plan that would actually be profitable for the US government! Think of that!
Check out the video here: http://www.live-shot.com/demo.shtml. ...and then ask yourself, "Why can't we use rubber bullets and two-legged-illegal-border-crosser targets?" I don't know why we can't. Do you?

Genocide is fashionable

enough to become an issue for many liberal democrats. This genocide in Sudan has been going on for at least three years (more information). Why is this cause being brought up now? Why only by these people? I'm not belittling this at all. I've just been thinking that with all the attention the "invisible children" have gotten in Uganda, why are not millions flocking to stop the killing of hundreds of thousands of Sudanese in a few short years?
(George Clooney alert!)
Check out the story: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/04/30/us.sudan.ap/index.html

Have anything to say? Please comment.

I have gas

on my mind a lot largely due to the fact that I pay $3.16 a gallon to fill up my little car (it runs better on the higher octane stuff since it was built when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade). If you're watching the news you might think the end of the world is near thanks to such an outrageous price for some as simple as gasoline (*sarcasm* A bobsled (and toilets) may be simple things...but I doubt getting a gallon of 93 octane gasoline in to my tank is a cake-walk). The reality is that gasoline has been undervalued. Thus, it's really not hurting our economy. Rather, a shortage will probably help as it provides incentive for innovation and entrepreneurship. A good article (sent to me by my favorite roommate) explains a lot.
Read it here: http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=042806E

On another note... I wish we could be as wise as 50 cent (though he said I could call him just 50...because me and him are down like that). Seems like the fact that most of these "entertainers" don't have a high-school diploma is too painfully obvious.

Student Teaching

I've never thought about blogging about my student teaching. It probably would have been to an excellent way to A) remember what I did and B) learn more from what has happened.
I suppose now is a good a time to start as any.
I've been having to do three preps each day for weeks now. The last two weeks I've been given a break because of some required school papers the kids have to write for their graduation portfolios. Tuesday takes the cake thanks to Sam Morrow. He decided to write a "song" to me while he should have been researching. Here is the extent of it:
Dear Mr. Hathaway,
I am sorry I am not working. I still like you cuz you is sweet and all. You are das baddest home boy of all and you keep it real all de time. You be so crunk itÂ’s off the chain. You are super fly for a white guy. Now here is a song I wrote about you:

Your name is Hathaway
You teach me everyday
You are so sweet
You tickeled your friends feet
You teach me history
And it makes me very happy
You wear goofy ties
And I can't lies
It makes me laugh
Like a shepperd with a staff
You come from Philly
Like that guy Smith, Willy
Were you in the show fresh prince of Bel Aire?
I really think it's cool your hair
You probably don't even care
You hate me so bad
Makes me very sad
I'm going to miss you
And could never forget what you do
You taught me so well
Mr. Hathaway you are swell!

Too Good! "You come from Philly, Like that guy Smith, Willy!" ...my kids.
I will miss them.
I will not miss waking up at 5:45am.

The links that I leave on this website (like the ADD blogger I am) relate (usually) to current events that I think I should share with my kids. Despite the inundation of irrelevant and bias news (good entry Libby http://libbyg-yo.blogspot.com/2005/11/news-you-will-never-hear-how-often.html ) I find that kids are curious about what goes on around them (though they might not admit it) and that a good story, even an important story, can get through to them.

Capitalism please...
