here at GCC. The last few days before finals are quickly passing us by. And what is Dave doing…? Writing in his blog. A week from right now… as you read this… I (we) shall be far, far away from all this work.
The highlight of this week was most certainly Handel’s Messiah down in Pittsburgh, Thursday night, presented by the Pittsburgh Symphony. A few Outing Club people and I headed down for the concert for only $5 (how sweet is Adam Neff). I saw many other GCC people there too and they greatly enjoyed it. If you get the chance, you should go. There’s nothing like hearing Messiah in person. I was quite excited and I got to bejiblies (goose-bumps) when I heard that opening part (Sinfony) of the harpsichord and violin.
Messiah is such an amazing piece. It covers the Old Testament prophesies of Christ’s coming, Christ’s birth, His ministry, and finally His death and resurrection. (Look for youself) I couldn’t imagine how any non-believer could leave without having some serious questions. Handel’s work is 100% sacred and, yet, is excepted in any secular artistic circle. What an amazing tool Christians have to reach out. One more thing, it is tradition, as you may know, to stand at the Hallelujah Chorus. The words, as given by my program, are:
Hallelujah!
For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
The kingdom of this world is become the
Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ;
And He shall reign for ever and ever.
King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
What is it about those words that oblige us to stand at their performance? Truly an amazing and powerful thing.
On an other note,
I saw Elf last night at the Guthrie. If anyone has any doubts about that movie… they really shouldn’t. You should go see it (especially for $4). Will Ferrell is great. All one has to do is look at his face to crack up. Oh man, something I should take my mommy to go see. “Elf” is clean, funny, and funny. Don’t miss it.
They were showing TTT:EE (The Two Towers: Extended Edition) in Rockwell last night. We missed (Megan and I) the first half but it was still super sweet. This was my first time seeing the EE (the movie part, that is. I spent probably 3-4 hours watching special features over break) and it was way awesome. Especially if you have read the books and you haven’t seen this yet, you will love it… because I was definitely going crazy over all the new stuff. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL RETURN OF THE KING!!

“Rudolph the Red Rose Reindeer”
Those were the last words of my last Russian History class after some fictional story about crazy Russians and Anastasia looking at snow out the window. Dr. Tilford-- the fine line between genius and insanity.

I was reckoning
That I should give yall a few days to recover from all those links. But the days go by (and still I dream of you…) and just keeping collecting the dern things and then I have to post them.
-BOOM!! Dead! The Eagles/Cowboys game was definitely a great game to any Eagles fan/Dallas hater. “Stranger” (Dave (not me)) predicted a 70-3 Eagles routing. Poor delusional man. Instead… did I mention Philly beat Dallas?? (Rated PG-13 for butt whooping).
-Let’s stick to the Eagles for a little bit. Apparently, Eagles fans are behaving much better now that they have a new stadium. But I’m sure that when the novelty wears off those Linc jail cells will be brimming. Aaaaaah… Philly culture.
-The NFL or whoever is trying a new ploy to get all the guys out there to watch the SuperBowl on Pay Per View. Let’s just hope it stays on pay per view. (rated PG, for the fact that these girls are going to try to play football, now that’s offensive)
-I meandered over to Ladd’s room for some Spanish Orals study action. This coincided with the Carolina/Atlanta game, therefore, “spanish” took about five hours. Michael Vick was back and it was something to behold.
-More importantly to all Americans: Bush has spent an other $400 billion. What a punk. Instead of lowering the prices on drugs or doing something else useful with our money he spends $400 Billion to help 40 million old heads. “wtf mates?”
-After the death of that Cinnciati guy caught on tape by police, the mayor now thinks he should spend a crap-load on tazers. If Dave were mayor… upgrade to M4 carbine rifles… and ask questions later.
-GCC: Let us all hope that DC++ GCC edition stays around for many more illegal CD’s.
-I was sooo pumped for the introduction of GloFish… but it ain’t happenin in The People’s Republic of Ch-alifornia. What a bummer. This article explains simply what went on to manufacture these fishys (and WHOA!, 5 bucks?!? Man.)
-This dime debate is one that you don’t see everyday. Personally, I hope they keep FDR. Things could get sticky if they keep changing it all the time. People might have their feelings hurt… or they might get a President’s bad side.
-Haha! This one’s nice and short. He just wants to make out with his girlfriend! (Be sure to read the bold)
-This man from Reedsville, PA, has a sweet idea you might say. I want a million pennies. How cool would that be? Hmm… I wonder if chics would dig it.
-The Limbaugh saga continues.
-Rosa Parks is back in the news. I thought she was dead, I suppose the front of the bus has treated her well. Anywho, this has to be one of the most interesting lawsuits for a while. Though, I really doubt it was her idea. (Contains black people)
-This article just goes to show some of the crap that I’m going to have to go through while teaching. I CANNOT BELIEVE all the crap that goes on. Hmm… teachers with M4 carbines in schools… if Dave were superintendent… …hehe.
-On to the other links of my nerdy life… If you ever used Ebay and got screwed over, this website is for you. I have reason to use it, but, sadly, it’s not going to make my money come back.
-This website teaches you how to be happy. (Rated PG-13 for cuteness and realistic portrayals of drug use)
-Also rated for cuteness is this site… if you’re a dog… (Rated R for Nudity).
-ATTN: male nerds: I forget why I looked for this picture (or one like it) on the internet… probably b/c that’s no longer important. Ooo la la. (Rated Super Hott)
-Michael Tait, and his band, from DCtalk has a new album out. Check it out (I actually bought this CD… that has to say something.)
-I need to ask Megan who’s playing the piano at her bar.
-An Outing Club alumnus told me about this web site. I figured all GCC people should at least see it once.
-“The surest sign that I loved this film? I want to see it again, right now.” That’s a positive sign from a dude who saw ROTK already and wrote a little about it. I cannot wait… it’s going to be super sweeeet!!
Don't mess with this. Click on it for a better look.

A Christmas Party in the snow
sure is a wonderful time. I went up to the Outing Club cabin yesterday with Gareth and Jeremy (Gareth's way cool buddy). There was probably only two inches or so on the ground when we went up, and with Gareth's Jeep we managed fine. We were the first ones (Tom had been up there for the whole week) there so we took a hike out the outlook (or overlook) 30ish minutes from the Cabin. But it was snowing... so we looked out at a wall of white, which was sweet, but boring. Other things happened, but I shall not embarrass Jeremy in print. Unrelated to Jeremy (thankfully) we ate a lot of snow... i love snow. With this snow we were just able to stand up and eat it off the trees when it stuck to them. Yummy. Then we would make little snow balls in our mouths and spit them at each other, with messy results. Getting back to the Cabin at 6ish we found that there were only 6ish guys at the cabin. Six guys, 24lbs of fried turkey, and $300 dollars worth of food. *mouth watering* With the snow still coming we thought that we would very well end up eating all the food. But, alas, 30 more people had the nerve to show up, includeing, that which were are told matters most, girls. Fortunatly for all, there was still stuff to be done in the big kitchen, what would we do without those girls? Haha.
So after a late late feast, that filled up my tummy, about 20 of us hiked out in the PA State reclaimation sumthin-er-nuther and took an evergreen tree for our own. After chopping for a while, Steve Dunbar (our new Chaplian) took matters into his own hands and tackeled that tree and showed it who its daddy was.
The rest of us just tackeled each other into snow drifts the whole time... a sweet time you might say. (And there's nothing like running silently through the snow and jumping and getting your feet off the ground and getting airbore for like half a second and then... WHAM-O! Snowed in the face! and up the coat! and down the neck! and rising again! "Muahahaha!!" (and the improper use of "and".))
Then we putzed around for the next 5 hours. Dr. Gordon is one sweet man, you might say. He's our advisor (a religion prof). He brought about 10 Cuban cigars to smoke and share. I enjoyed a Havana "Monte Christo, Number 4." It was a strong cigar but it had excellent flavor. I also sampled an "El Rey Del Mundo." The other one (that the Doc primarily smoked) didn't have a band on it, so I don't remember what kind it was... just that it was very very good and that the same cigar was talked about in Black Hawk Down (toward the begginning the black gun runner lights up a Cigar offers one to the US dude and says something about it being the best cigar in the world). Now that I think about it, it might have been a Don Tomas,
but I'm not sure if it was or what size it was... though it easily could have been a robusto. So Dr. Gordon is certainly one of the sweetest men alive to share $30 dollar Cubans with college kids who normally smoke 20 cent Phillies and roll even cheaper pipe tobacco.
After I was done smoking, we starting singing Christmas carols. I was thankful that my voice was still able to hold up. It was definitly one of the best Christmas carol times of my life. The table was all guys (with girls by the fire) and we were belting it out. Tom, the '77 alumnus, is a real good singer and it was a good time.
We then chatted, smoked, and played with Tom's MP5, Uzi, and Chinese sniper rifle (*grin*) until 2am.
sleep.
I awaken at 9:30ish. Have a breakfast of eggs, bacon, and OJ thanks to Tom and get ready to go. The sun this morning was so beautiful. The trees were covered in snow. With not a cloud in the sky, it was so bright and clean. The wind would blow through once in a while and every would become a white mist...
Ben's a much careful driver now. He got me home.

I have a butt
load of sweet ace links that i really don't think you can miss. I hope you can stay with me here. There's sort of a lot... but I finished both my papers... so I have some time to kill.
First, I got this link off someone's profile at like 3am last night. These are some real neat pictures of Iraq showing what our troops are really doing. Wow. Americans are sweet.
This is an informative article on the curent marriage issue and its political ramifications. Pray for Bush.
Pennsylvania residents: this article shows the importance of our involvment in politics. Let's see what we can do to help out the GOP.
This is an article on Mel Gibson's "Passion" film. I'm not really too sure how good some of their statistics are, but it's informative nonetheless. The film is to be released Ash Wednesday next year.
I read this article not realizing my mouth was open during the first have of this. I'm astounded. Crazy people.
It's a big fish day. First, the catfish. But I'd have to say that these GloFish have to be the sweetest things ever. Read the CNN article to appease you curitosity. I need me some of these fishies.
Oh yeah. Don't be afraid of sharks. The real threat is a lot closer to home.
Some dude that has connections with the Motion Picture Acadamy got to see LOTR:ROTK (that's Lord of the Rings: Return of the King for those less nerdy). So he wrote a review. It'll only make sense if you read the books, but it's still well written and worth reading.
DC++ is the sweetest ever!! Special thanks to Ian for getting back online.

We're back online
after an excellent Thankgiving respite. Thanks to everyone back home who made the time fly. Especially: To mom, to feeds me because she loves me. To Jim, who takes us climbing to Philadephia Rock Gym. To Brian Hand, who opens up his semi-ghetto apartment to his buddies (he's also joining the church this sunday!).
It seems like President Bush had a good thanksgiving too, hangin over in Iraq. What a sweet man. No one hurt, no attempts. A good trip.
Donny Rumsfeld, meanwhile, got the "foot in mouth" award. But I really don't think that his statement was really too bad. Sure it was confusing, but it's not like he said anything that he didn't mean to say, he was trying to convey a difficult point. Those Brits are just mad because they don't understand english and our liberal media likes to make fun of those who decide the fate of our nation.
I found some interesting articles on some gun control laws. They're a little old but they're worth the while. Gueda Springs - Kennesaw
While writeing my paper on Just War Theory (which I should email to all my Mennonite friends) I discovered Keith Pavlischek. He warms my Presbyterian heart.

"She's totally sweet"
Rain Bath
So anyway... I've come to the conclusion that's it's dangerous to think and shower at the same time. Before your little imagination runs away... ...we watched Good Will Hunting this evening. I had never seen the movie before and I'm glad that I really didn't know what it was about. I guess that's what makes some movies great and some not. Movies like the 6th Sense... you say 5 words and that ruins the movie... But you can read an essay on Good Will Hunting and still have a great movie waiting.
Back to Dangerous showers... ...I was thinking why it was such a great movie. It's about death, about dying. About things dying, people dying, killing apart of yourself... and moving on. And it's about, "Throwing down your money and seeing what hand you're dealt." Of course, this works out fine and dandy in the movie and I know, even in my limited, sheltered experience, that it can't turn out so neatly. But some times we're so scared. We're so frightened of what might not come our way, that we miss out on all that does.
More frightening... to be constantly reminded, through sight, voice, and smell, of what was once there. It's so hard to move on. Maybe a part of you never does.
Praise the Lord for Psalm 139.
Now... fo real back to showers. I was thinking about all this and I forgot where I was in the bathing process... and that confused the heck out of me. So maybe I took two showers, maybe only one. Either way, at least Herb and the toll-booth lady won't have any funkiness to complain about.
Have a good Thanksgiving everyone. I'm home for the week.
A web site to keep you entertained... maybe you'll find something you'll recognize. All i can say is, I hope I have as much time on my hands as this guy some day.

Today in chapel...
"Father, we love you
we worship and adore you,
glorify thy name in all the earth.
Glorify...
Jesus, we love you
Spirit, we love you"
I'm sure you know the song that I'm talking about here. I really like this song due mostly to the fact that it's simple and easy and was, therefore, sung all the time in elementary school chapel. Now for the question, how are we supposed to worship and adore the Spirit? Worshiping the Father and Son is relatively easy to understand. The Father is a father. We worship Him as one honors or venerates an earthly father (and this is no dead beat dad we're talking about). The Son has saved us. What a nice guy. He died, and through his resurrection, we too will rise again. Who wouldn't want to worship and adore a dude like that? But what about that Spirit? Do we really ever stop and worship the Spirit? What about those fainting, pot-luck, black ladies in the South? Do they say, "OOhhh! Thank you Spirit!! Praise THAT name!! ..." ? Not to the best of my knowledge. Maybe we should. Think about it.
Well, I liked song number one. Song number two got on my nerves. I think we said, "every good and perfect gift comes from you," like eightteen hundred times. Which is ok, because it's true. Then something else kicks in and asks, "Ok. What about all the other gifts? the ones that suck?" Don't they come from our "Father of lights" too? Let's thank God for them too.
Furthermore... thank you Clowns for Christ. I went in there with no expectations, i mean, cmon, it's Grove City. We're pretty boring. But even with a bunch of nerds on stage, it was a good time. I also learned that black clown people can still dance better than normal white people. What's happening?

Dr. Tilford goes gay
Today we had some good "Fathers and Sons" talk in Russian History class with Dr. Tilford. Dr. Tilford said, "Mom! Dad! It's the 60's, not the 40's. Now my kids say, 'Mom! Dad! It's the '90's, not the '60's.' And I'm sure that your kids will say 'Dad! Dad!' or 'Mom! Mom! It's the '30's.'"
Yea for stupid gay people and their gay friends. These people should be happy with the rights they have.

Some news
Call me cold and heartless but I think all this new World Trade Center stuff is pretty silly. I can understand the difficulty of choosing a design for the new building, for its practicality and honoring those who died. But what's all this "jury" and getting approval from the families of those who died crap. I don't understand how they think they have the right to dictate what someone else does with their property. It's silly.
In other news, Michael Jackson has made the front page over Bush's visit to England. I don't want to hear about Jackson's addiction to small children, thank you very much.
Rush Limbaugh is back on the air after five weeks in rehab. Too bad I cannot listen to him here.

Some good links
I thought this was a very good article until the last few paragraphs where we have to bash Bush and his environmental policies. Such is life.
Once again, the creativity of GCC students astounds me. What am I doing here learning about history??
Thanks to my friend (and yours) Global Warming, it might be time to invest in my Spanish vinyard. What do you think? (I'll let you in on it too Megan)

Greetings. This is my first "blog." I was first introduced to them through World magazine. Now I see that quite a few of my friends here at Grove City have them. I got jealous and I figured that I do the some of the same things on my IM profile as I do here. So now I have an other excuse to sit in front of the computer for hours on end.
